On March 8, countries around the world celebrate International Women’s Day. This day highlights the achievements of women and girls but also raises awareness about the long road ahead in achieving gender parity. So, on this special day, we wanted to salute the women who have shaped the Supporo brand and products. Whether as members of our team or as customers, you inspire us, lead us, and contribute to our success. Today, we salute you!
What is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day of recognition celebrating the social, cultural, and economic achievements of women and girls, and raising awareness of the work that remains to be done. First observed in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland, the event drew over a million men and women who rallied for women’s rights. Emerging from labour movements in North America and Europe, participants campaigned for women’s’ rights to work, vote, and hold public office, and to end discrimination. Since then, numerous countries around the world have joined in on the fight. And the United Nations officially celebrated the day for the first time in 1975 marking the beginning of an important tradition.

The theme for this year is #ChoosetoChallenge. In other words, the IWD movement is challenging all of us to call out gender inequality, bias, and discrimination. As we are all responsible for our actions and thoughts, we can all choose to challenge. And we can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements.
#ChoosetoChallenge with Supporo
While women’s rights have come a long way since 1911, we know that there is still a lot of work to be done. While we may not be able to accomplish gender parity in our lifetimes, we can all work toward a more inclusive and diverse world and workplace. At Supporo, we are proud that 50% of our executive team identify as women. Additionally, our design team is led by a female artistic director. We embrace what every female employee brings to the table and how they have positively affected our brand values for 30 years!
