7 Ideas to Celebrate Teachers on World Teacher Day

World Teacher Day, or International Teacher Day, is held on October 5 every year to celebrate teachers around the globe who work hard moulding young minds and making a real difference in the world. This October 5, let’s show our appreciation and gratitude. Here are a few ideas to thank your current (or past) teacher and let them know what a positive impact they have had in your life.

What is World Teacher Day?

Celebrated since 1994, World Teacher Day commemorates the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers, which, as UNESCO explains, “sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.”

Today, the day celebrates how teachers are instrumental in transforming education and the role they play in developing and shaping young minds. But it’s also a day to reflect on the support and tools teachers need to do their jobs properly and the future of the profession around the world.

Teachers play a big role

If you’ve ever had a truly great teacher, you know how big an impact they can have in your life. Many of us will remember that one special teacher. The one that believed in you, challenged you, pushed you, motivated you, and inspired you. Often, it’s that one teacher that influenced the path you decided to pursue in life. Through their commitment, dedication, passion, and understanding, teachers bring the power of education to young minds and are key players in providing a better future, both for individuals and society as a whole.

Say thank you your way

Here are seven ideas to say thank you and show your appreciation to the teachers who have had an impact in your life.

  1. Say “thank you” with flowers. We love this “you rule” planter for their desk from HGTV or this pretty flower pen bouquet from East Coast Mommy. Fun and easy craft projects the kids will love!

  1. Get them a personalized stamp. With so many options and fun designs available, like this great selection from Etsy, you can customize a stamp to reflect your teacher’s unique personality.

  1. Put together a home spa basket. After a long week at work, who doesn’t love a bit of pampering! Include some scented candles, body scrubs and lotions, bath bombs or bubble bath, and, of course, the Magic Bag heatable slippers and aromatherapy eye mask.

  1. Write them a special message. Letter boards are all the rage in classrooms these days. Why not buy one for your teacher and include a heartfelt message?

  1. Give them a warm welcome with a colourful welcome mat for the classroom. You can even personalize some of them with your teacher’s name.

  1. Help ease their tension with the Magic Bag neck-to-back compress. Perfect for those long hours spent grading papers.

  1. Give them a touch of comfort with the Magic Bag Touch of Comfort Gift Set. Featuring our limited edition 30th anniversary print, this gift set includes a pretty mug and our signature hot/cold compress for ultimate relaxation.

Whether it’s your current or past teacher, reach out to let them know the difference they made in your life. Often, just a short message or small gesture can speak volumes!
