Celebrating #RandomActsofKindnessDay – Ideas To Inspire Kindness

Wouldn’t the world be better with a little more kindness? We certainly think so! That’s why, in celebration of Random Acts of Kindness Day this February 17th, we’re sharing our favourite ways you can spread a little cheer and put a smile on someone’s face.

The world can be overwhelming sometimes, so this celebration is the perfect way to make it shine a little brighter. Whether that means showing a bit of extra love to your friends and family, or doing something unexpected for a complete stranger, there are a multitude of ways you can choose to put others first and inspire kindness this February.

Donate To A Charity of Your Choice

What better way to practice kindness than to donate to your favourite cause? Random Acts of Kindness is the perfect time to examine your annual giving plan. If you already donate to charity, perhaps you could boost your monthly donation, or see if you could make a new donation to another deserving organization.

If you don’t already donate to charity, there are many to choose from that are doing fantastic work. Here are a few of our top picks!

Make-A-Wish Foundation®

Make-A-Wish Foundation®  is a charity that grants life-changing wishes to children and teens suffering from critical illnesses. Your donation could help a child visit Disney World or meet their favourite celebrity, sports player or animated character!

And now, we’re making it easier than ever to support this wonderful foundation. When you make a purchase from the Warmy line, our collection of cute and cuddly animal-shaped compresses, a percentage of proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish®. Make a child’s dream come true and get an adorable, therapeutic compress while you’re at it.

SPCA – Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

Animals deserve kindness too! Unfortunately, there are still thousands of animals suffering from injury, abuse or neglect. The SPCA works tirelessly to provide them with the urgently needed care they require, educate communities on animal wellbeing, and run spay and neuter programs. Your generosity could truly give an animal a second chance at life!

Hockey Helps The Homeless

Canadians sure love their hockey! Imagine if simply playing your favourite sport could improve the lives of Canada’s homeless population? With Hockey Helps The Homeless, you can do exactly that.

The organization hosts Pro-Am and Collegiate hockey tournaments across Canada where players raise funds so they can create a direct impact in their own communities. The money you raise goes toward local shelters and organizations, education, and resources for homeless and at-risk Canadians. If you’re in the Montreal area, you might even catch our very own Masel Inc. president on the ice for the Montreal division tournament!

If you love the idea but don’t want to play, there are other ways to show your support, such as a monthly or one-time donation.

Random Acts of Kindness

Don’t have the money to donate right now? Financial donations aren’t the only way to inspire kindness this February!

We’ve teamed up with a few of our employees and asked them to share their best ideas for celebrating #RandomActsofKindnessDay.

Daniel’s Idea – Practice Gratitude By Writing A Thank-You Note

Daniel, our Marketing Coordinator, suggests writing a thank-you note. When was the last time you actually received a card in the mail thanking you for something? While it’s often easier to send off a quick text or email, creating a hand-made card or note goes the extra mile and feels so much more special.

Think about who you’re grateful for right now. Maybe a friend did you a favor recently, or you just want to thank a family member for their continued support. Express your gratitude for them in a hand-written note. As it’s so rare to receive letters these days, you’ll be sure to put a big smile on the receiver’s face!

Deny’s Idea – Pay For A Stranger’s Coffee

While we may remember to shower our friends and family with kindness throughout the year, how often do we do something nice for a complete stranger? Deny, our Designer and Art Director suggests offering to pay for the coffee of the next person behind you at your favourite cafe. You’ll take them by surprise and most likely make their day!

Want to double-down on kindness and get extra karma points? Leave a generous tip for your barista in the same transaction. Remember… what goes around, comes around!

Chantal’s Idea – Volunteer in Your Community

Giving the gift of your time is immensely valuable. Chantal, from our Customer Service team, suggests volunteering – and there are so many ways to do it! You could give back to those in your community by volunteering at a local soup kitchen, homeless shelter, foodbank, animal shelter or retirement home. There are tons of local organizations doing much-needed work that could not function without their hard-working volunteers.

If you have a special skill that could benefit a charitable organization, you could consider leveraging your talents to help out. Perhaps you’re good with tech and build a website pro-bono for a charity, or you’re fantastic with languages and look into teaching English or French to new Canadians.

Whichever way you choose to celebrate, we hope #RandomActsofKindnessDay inspires you to add a bit of extra kindness to people’s lives all year long. When we choose to look out for one another, we make life a little bit easier, a little bit brighter and a whole lot more fun!
