Your December Checklist

Tis the season for December madness! As the end-of-year holidays approach, the season of jolliness and good cheer can sometimes be anything but. With endless parties and get-togethers, last-minute gift buying, decorating, hosting family, and more, December can be a stressful month. So this year, why not focus on spending quality time with loved ones and doing all the things that make the time magical? Here is your December checklist of fun activities to make the most of the season and start the new year off stress free.

Get in the holiday spirit with gingerbread houses

If you’re looking for a fun and easy-to-do activity with kids, try making this no-bake gingerbread house from the Spruce Eats. Using Graham crackers and no-cook frosting, this recipe is less time consuming and perfect for little ones. Build just one house or throw a gingerbread house decorating party, where friends come over to decorate a house and then take it home with them.

Have a Christmas movie marathon

You don’t have to celebrate Christmas to love Christmas movies! Queue up the DVR or add all your favourites to your streaming list and get ready for a movie marathon. Don’t forget the snacks and hot chocolate! And, to make things extra cozy, heat up those Magic Bag slippers to keep feet extra toasty as you snuggled up on the couch. Need inspiration on what to watch, check out some of our favourite holiday movies.

Decorate ornaments

Another fun kid-friendly activity, decorating ornaments is a great way to spend some quality time with the kids or with friends. And they make great gifts! All you need are some inexpensive fillable plastic ball ornaments, a few art supplies, and lots of creativity. Find ideas and inspiration here.

Head out to the holiday parade

Bundle up the kiddos and head out to your city’s Christmas parade to really get into a festive mood. Watch as the little ones get excited to see Santa and all his reindeer. A truly magical time for all!

Spend the day in the great outdoors

Head to the local hill for a day of sledding or to the rink for some Yuletide skating fun. A day spent outdoors is a wonderful way to expend energy and enjoy the start of winter.

Admire the holiday lights

You do not need to be in Rockefeller Center to admire the holiday light displays. Most cities have light displays and installation worth the trip. From giant Christmas trees to lit up buildings to glowing attractions, there are plenty of illuminated installations to brighten up the night sky. Or you can even take a drive to neighbourhoods that are known for going all out on the holiday decorations.

Build a snowman … or two

Building a snowman is a time-honoured tradition and so much fun. Dress up your snow person with all kinds of wild accessories—top hats, colourful scarves, funny glasses—and remember to take lots of photos. Afterwards, head indoors for some hot cocoa and warm up with a nice hot Magic Bag Extended and Magic Bag Warmy for the kids.

The end-of-year can be a stressful time for all of us. But remember to focus on what really matters—spending time with the people you love—and don’t sweat the small stuff. Planning ahead, keeping things simple, and taking the time to have fun are key ingredients to having a stress-free holiday season.
